![“When disturbed by negative thoughts, opposite [positive] ones should be thought of. This is pratipaksha bhavana” (Yoga Sutra 2:33).
When our mind is disturbed by negative thoughts, it affects our whole system. Tension and constriction builds in the body, breath and emotions. We become disconnected from reality, ourselves and each other.
Pratipaksha bhavana isn't about repressing negative emotions, instead we witness and acknowledge the message they bring. From here we can cultivate more positive ways of thinking, leading to greater peace, clarity and equanimity.
